County Galway is known
as the 'stone wall County', due to the number of walls to be found throughout the County. The large
number of stone walls (as opposed to hedges or other boundary markers) is due to the abundance
of limestone to be found in this region of Ireland.
Like County Clare , Galway has some of Ireland's most spectacular
scenery , especially Connemara and the nearby Aran Islands. Galway City, by the seaside, is
itself a vibrant place with many things to see and do. Galway City is known as the 'City of
Tribes', and is steeped in a rich history. This can be appreciated in the diversity of culture
to be found here.
