As with all the Counties of Ireland , Galway has a colourful and varied history. In fact , there is so much historical information and the topic is so broad that it would require a web-site of its own to cover every conceivable area of knowledge. For this reason we have made no attempt at following a 'time-line' of the County's history yet (watch this space !). Instead we present a more eclectic view of the local history and persons of note. We have however, included a 'time-line' history of Galway City and links to other web-sites and web-pages that also contain history of the county. Also a short guide to field monuments (standing stones, dolmens etc.) that can be found in the county. Happy history hunting !
