A village half way between Galway and Oughterard. Lough Corrib with its renowned fishing is a short distance from the village ; there is local B & B accommodation. Violet Martin was born at Ross House nearby. The man who guarded Napoleon in St. Helena , Major Poppleton , is buried in the family vault of the Martins , as his wife was a Martin. There is a variety of historical remains in the vicinity : churches , wells , cairns and other ruins.
