Inagh is a cross-roads village nine miles from Ennis on the road to Ennistymon / Lahinch. A small river, the Inagh, runs through it, eventually passing through Ennistymon and its famous 'falls' on the way to the sea. Small trout are found along this stretch, the river having happily recovered from an incidence of pollution caused by a co-operative pig-fattening enterprise which failed economically shortly afterwards.
There are two local pubs at the cross-roads, one of which has re-invented itself as a pub-brewery trading as "The Biddy Early Brewery" (Ireland's first !), and producing draught lager ("Blonde Biddy"), stout ("Black Biddy") and ale ("Red Biddy") using extracts from local plants and sea-weeds as flavouring and purifying agents. Across the road, Leydens offers the more traditional brands. Inagh was the site of one of the first efforts of an enterprise - the Rural Housing Organisation - which attempted to regenerate small towns in north and east Clare by providing affordable housing to young couples. The brainchild of Fr. Harry Bohan, a man of many talents, the R.H.O. had some success in a number of towns and villages, but seems to have lost its momentum in recent years.
