A village half way between Galway and Oughterard. Lough Corrib with its renowned fishing is a short distance from the village; there is local B & B accommodation.
Violet Martin was born at Ross House nearby. The man who guarded Napoleon in St. Helena, Major Poppleton, is buried in the family vault of the Martins, as his wife was a Martin.
There is a variety of historical remains in the vicinity: churches, wells, cairns and other ruins.
