County Galway - Gort library

The Library itself, a County Council branch library, is small and contains little of notable special interest, but is housed in the former Church of Ireland parish church; a very pretty stone building set in a very well-kept churchyard, still in use as a burial ground. Part of the church is used for local displays and exhibitions. The east window is of very handsome stained glass, and there are some interesting wall plaques commemorating deceased parishioners who distinguished themselves in bygone days. The churchyard is immaculately maintained and contains a number of venerable grave stones. The library is open on most afternoons, some evenings and on saturday mornings.
