Spiddal has 2 beaches; the more frequented and less attractive is the rocky foreshore on the Galway (East) edge of the village, just beside the coast road as you enter the village. The other is west of the village, sheltered by the pier; a large expanse of firm clear sand. There is quite deep water beside the pier, so children need supervision. Car-parking is rather restricted.
Note: This is a working pier, used by the local fishing boats, so access must not be restricted.
Occassional good shore angling off the pier and the rocks behind it, when the mackerel are running and the tide is in.
Access: Narrow road to left just at western end of the village; signposted 'Pier'. Bus route: all Galway buses on the coast road stop at Spiddal.
