MORE  ANCIENT  IRISH  MEDICINE

Airmid  was the daughter of the Tuatha de Danaan Master  Healer, Diancecht, and with her brother, Micha surpassed their fathers healing abilities.

It is said that Diancecht made a very efficient silver arm for the king, Nuada who had lost his arm and with it his claim to kingship.  Kings had to be physically perfect in old Ireland.
Aimid and Micha went to visit Nuada and saw that the arm was festering as prosthetic limbs sometimes do due to chaffing at the join so to speak.  The intrepid duo decided to improve on their fathers work and with a mixtures of magic chants (now called bio-acoustics) and other means succeeded in re-growing a new arm for Nuada.  Nuada could now be king again.

In addition to this bit of cleverness, the pair saw that Nuada's doorkeeper was missing an eye.  Without fuss or bother (except to the poor donor cat) Airmid and Micha did an eye transplant for the doorkeeper. We have no name for the doorkeeper, but it is well known that from there on in  he slept all day and stayed awake all night. The cats eye retained the nature of the cat. In heart transplant surgery today it is emerging that the receivers of new hearts are showing the tendencies of the donors!

Diancecht  was less than delighted with his clever children's achievements.  In fact he was so peeved with Micha that he split his head in two after several other unsuccessful efforts to kill his son.

Micha had a 'magic cloak', a catalogue of all the plants used for healing every ill. Diancecht destroyed the cloak and lost us the knowledge contained in it. Pity!
