The Mid-West of Ireland and the Solar Eclipse in August 1999
Although people in Ireland won't be fortunate enough to witness the total Solar eclipse on Wednesday August 11th of this year ( 1999 ) , they will still be able to witness a partial solar eclipse. An approximate 95% eclipse will be viewable from the mid-west of Ireland , decreasing towards a 90% eclipse in the far north of Ireland.
* VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE *
Viewing the sun with the naked eye during a partial eclipse is not safe to do without taking special precautions. The only time the sun can be viewed safely with the naked eye is during the few seconds or minutes of the total eclipse.
Do not attempt to view the partial eclipse with the naked eye.
Failure to use appropriate sun filters could result in blindness or other permanent eye damage.
